Series: A Working Girl’s Best Friend – The Black Blazer

No surprises here!

This is the must have of all must haves.

The single most important staple in any Working Girl’s wardrobe.  A well fitted, beautifully tailored blazer suit jacket.  Preferably several.

We know that recently, there has been a trend developing of loosely fitting blazers, (a la Elaine Benes, circa 1992) but PLEASE!  Resist the temptation.  As much as we love Elaine (as featured in our Top 10 Working Girls from TV and Film post), a well fitted blazer is fiercely essential to our elected profession.

In short: Wear them.  It looks smart and your boss will hate you for it.

Series: A Working Girl’s Best Friend – The Vintage Secretary Blouse

Send your non fashion-forward colleagues into a titter with a vintage secretary blouse.  Nothing says, “I don’t belong here but, regrettably, you do!”, like this kitschy retro garment.

What was once a staple of any office is now a daring and hip piece to add to your day job clothing collection.  It comes off with an alternative-ish vibe but is still appropriate enough to where neither your boss nor HR will have a case against you.

Buy them!

Wear them!

Preferably several in multiple colors and patterns.

Series: A Working Girl’s Best Friend – Red Lipstick

It intimidates.

It infuriates.

It suggests good posture and a sharp tongue.

If you ever find yourself on the bitch-slapped end of a meeting with your boss, being reprimanded, disciplined or otherwise, plan ahead working girl!  Be sure to sport a daring crimson hue.  It will give off a most haughty disposition, which is really the last remaining and feeble shred of control us working girls can cling to anymore.

Bonus: It makes your teeth look whiter.
